LAKHIMPUR : Making a mockery to the security of Lakhimpur police, four unidentified miscreants, equipped with firearms, looted Rs 11,00,000 in cash from a businessman in North Lakhimpur town on Saturday.

The shocking incident took place at the Abbash Market Path at Ward No.10 of the town near the Main Chariali around 9.30 on Saturday night. As per reports, Binod Kumar Harlalka, a prominent businessman of North Lakhimpur, accompanied by one of his employees, was going home at that time after closing his commercial institution, located at KB Road of the town. When they were about to reach home on the Abbash Market Path, four miscreants, who came riding two bikes, held them up. They threatened to shoot the businessman from and snatched the bag containing the cash away from him. The businessman was manhandled and he fell down in a drain. After looting the cash, the miscreants drove away. The shocking incident was captured on CCTV camera.

The businessman lodged a complaint at North Lakhimpur Police Station on Sunday. Meanwhile, the Lakhimpur Police has collected the CCTV footage and launched an operation to trace the miscreants.

In the wake of the incident, the businessmen of the town have become apprehensive and called upon the police department to tighten security measures in the town.
